Lots going on this Thursday!

Hey everyone!

I hope your 8th week is off to a great start! Just a reminder that BOWLATHON is happening tomorrow!!!

In addition, there are a lot of different events happening this upcoming Thursday, Feb. 28! Please try to go out to a couple of them! They will definitely be worth your time.

Talk by Scott Kurashige
"The Shifting Grounds of Race:
Black and Japanese Americans in the Making of Multiethnic Los Angeles"

In The Shifting Grounds of Race, Scott Kurashige highlights the role African Americans and Japanese Americans played in the social and political struggles that remade twentieth-century Los Angeles. Linking paradigmatic events like Japanese American internment and the Black civil rights movement, Kurashige explores the multiethnic dimensions of segregation and integration. Racism and sprawl shaped the dominant image of Los Angeles as a "white city." But they simultaneously fostered a shared oppositional consciousness among Black and Japanese Americans living as neighbors within diverse urban communities. Kurashige demonstrates why African Americans and Japanese Americans joined forces in the battle against discrimination and why the trajectories of the two groups diverged.

Michael Cho Vigil in Bruin Plaza 7-10 PM.

Stop Police Brutality,
REMEMBER MICHAEL CHO.

Justice for Mike Cho
and UCLA's Korean American Students Association, Queer Alliance, and Asian Pacific Coalition invite you and your friends to a UCLA campus vigil for Michael S. Cho.

Everybody is welcome to bring instruments to play along with the crowd.

If you knew Mike or work with civil rights organizations and would like to speak at the event, please contact justiceformikecho@gmail.com.

Background: On December 31, 2007 at approximately 2pm, Michael S. Cho, a 25 year old UCLA graduate, was shot and killed by La Habra policemen who were responding to a vandalism complaint. They shot him over 10 times. Policemen justified the shooting by claiming that he was holding a tire iron in his left hand and made a "motion to attack".

We hope to see you out at these events!

First Post!

Hi everyone!

This is the first post of what I hope becomes an effective and fun tool to keep everyone updated with APC-related events, so make sure to keep checking for updates! And if you ever have any comments or suggestions, please feel free to drop a comment or talk to any staffer. We're friendly people--I promise! :)

So to celebrate the first post EVER, here are some pictures from APC's Winter 2008 LDRT Retreat!

Group picture on the last day! (Sorry to those who left a little early)

Staff thanks everyone for coming out!
We hope you had a great time!
Get ready for Spring Retreat! ;)

I'll be sure to post APC and org announcements here in the near future. But until then, I hope you spread the word about this blogsite among both APC and non-APCers. It will be a great way for people to keep up with what's going on with the orgs and even the community.

Oh yeah, and
Happy Lunar New Year! And of course, Happy Birthday MIKE!!!
